Jordan's Journey
A path shaped by purpose and place
Born and raised in Cape Town, in the shadow of Table Mountain, I learned early that our environments profoundly shape our wellbeing.

Highlighting that our paths and expectations in life are capable of deviating from our objectives and goals, my career in the field of psychology was not initially intended. As an alternative to pursuing a career in aviation - which proved to be overwhelmingly costly - I was accepted to study psychology and communication sciences at Varsity College. It was during this time that I discovered my true passion for psychological sciences, and practically transferring learned theory into application.

After completing my undergraduate degree at VC, and gaining experience in various settings and theoretical modalities, I enrolled at Cornerstone Institute for postgraduate studies and research. CI instilled essential psychological training, theoretically and practically. I had the privilege of completing the practical component of my training in Cape Town where I gathered invaluable experience from the community. My research thesis - family interventions and the impact thereof on mental health in the South African context - was also completed during this phase.

Through this experience, I came to develop a particular professional liking and interest towards supporting young males, who represent an overwhelmingly under-serviced demographic in our population with respects to mental health. Supporting males in a society that actively undermines their need for emotional experience and relief, brings me a profound sense of professional satisfaction.

This interest stuck with me as I established my practice. Although I have interest in psychologically supporting males, I am more than capable of supporting all individuals from our community presenting with unique circumstances, ranging from - although not exhaustive: supporting single mothers; couples; members of the retired population; and administering psychometric assessments to children, teens, and undergraduate students.

Other Pathways
During my undergraduate studies, I volunteered my time and knowledge to the Kuthetha Nathi / Talk To Us NPO. This is a low-cost counselling service providing mental health support to community members who might otherwise be unable to afford counselling. I now work for the NPO as a Training Facilitator having co-developed - and providing training facilitation on - Kuthetha Nathi's community counsellor training curriculum.

I also gained essential experience working as the office administrator for Cape Town Psychologists - the practice from which I currently operate - while completing my postgraduate training, and research.
