Jordan's Journey
A path shaped by purpose and place
I learned early that our environments can profoundly shape our wellbeing and direction. An unexpected change in circumstances led me to study Psychology and Communication Sciences. It was during this undergraduate experience that I discovered a genuine passion for psychological science and its practical application.
During this time, I volunteered with Kuthetha Nathi (Talk To Us), a community-based NPO providing low-cost counselling to individuals who might otherwise be unable to access psychological support. This experience introduced me to the importance of accessible, community-based mental healthcare and strengthened my commitment to working within the communities I serve.
I gained experience across different settings and therapeutic approaches during my postgraduate training. Alongside my studies, I worked as an office administrator at Cape Town Psychologists, the practice from which I now operate. My practical training in Cape Town provided invaluable experience within the community, while my research examined family interventions and their impact on mental health in the South African context.
My involvement with Kuthetha Nathi (Talk To Us) has continued to evolve. I now serve as a Training Facilitator for the organisation, having co-developed its community counsellor training programme and facilitating training for its volunteer counsellors. This allows me to contribute not only through direct psychological counselling, but also through the development of others who provide mental health support within the community.
My experiences during training contributed to my particular interest in supporting men. I have found meaning in creating a space where men can speak openly about their experiences, emotions and difficulties, particularly when doing so may not come naturally or feel readily supported elsewhere in their lives. This remains an important and professionally meaningful aspect of my work. While I have a particular interest in supporting men, my training enables me to work with adults from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of personal circumstances. I am also trained in the administration of selected psychometric assessments for children, adolescents, and undergraduate students.

Continuous Professional Development
Ongoing learning
As per the HPCSA's ethical guidelines, I regularly attend talks, and other training events hosted by, and designed for, psychological practitioners. These activities academically and practically build on already established knowledge, skills, and training, ensuring that I remain up-to-date with the latest advancements and developments in the psychological space.
